Thought For The Day

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Katha (Story)....

________________________________________________________________________________________

Gurupournima Day, 6 July 1963, 6:30PM. (Sathya Sai Baba, Sathya Sai Speaks III 5, 19.)
[Editor's note. This discourse was exciting for two important reasons. First, Swami illustrated his powers by curing himself, in a few seconds and before thousands of people, of a severe stroke that he had had for eight days and explaining why this event had to take place. Second, for the first time, Swami mentioned Prema Sai, his next incarnation. Swami said that he would come back in a third incarnation as Prema Sai eight years after he leaves this body.]

This is not Swami's illness; this is an illness that Swami has taken on in order to save some one. Swami has no illnesses, nor will he get ill at any time. You must all be happy; that alone will make Swami happy. If you grieve, Swami will not be happy. Your joy is Swami's food.
(Then, Baba signaled to Kasturi to speak. After his short speech was over, Baba wanted the mike to be held before him. He asked through it "Vinapisthundaa!". But, though he asked again and again, the voice was so indistinct that no could make out what it meant.
He then signed for water. When it was brought, he sprinkled a little with his shaking right hand on the stricken left hand, on his left leg. He stroked his left hand with the right. Immediately, he used both hands to stroke his left leg, and that touch was enough to cure it. He doffed the disease in a trice! He started to speak! It was the same musical voice.)
For those who have no refuge, God is the refuge (Dikku lenivaniki devude gathi). That is exactly the reason I had to take on the disease that one helpless devotee was to get. He had to suffer this dire illness, as well as the four heart attacks that accompanied it, and he would not have survived it. So, according to my duty (dharma) to protect devotees (bakthasamrakshana), I had to rescue him. Of course, this is not the first time that I have taken on the illness of persons whom I wanted to save. Even in the previous Sariram at Shirdi, I had this responsibility. The suffering that you saw was too much for this particular devotee, so I had to save him by going through it myself. This is my play (leela), my nature. It is part of the task for which I have come, sishyarakshana.
People who were near me during the last week were asking me to give them the name of the person whom I had saved. I told them that it would make them angry against that person, for Swami, they would say, "had to undergo much pain in order to save that one person." Then, they replied that they would honor the person because of the extraordinary devotion that persuaded Swami to run to his rescue that Saturday morning.
Some people even asked me whether it was this person or that, giving names of those who had attacks of paralysis, especially on the left side! This is even more ludicrous, because when I save a person I save him completely. I do not wait until he gets the disease, and I do not leave him a fraction of a disease so that he may be identified later. It all looks funny to me, the guesses and surmises that you make.
Even in Shirdi, Dada Saheb, Nadaram, Balawanth, all were saved by these means. Balawanth was destined to get plague, but the bubo was taken over and the boy saved.
This is perhaps the longest period when I kept the devotees wondering and worried. That was because of the heart attacks, which had to come later on the devotee, from which also he had to be saved. Then, there is another reason why the 8-day period had to be observed. I shall tell you why. This means I must tell you about myself, about something I haven't disclosed so far, something that I was keeping within myself for the last 37 years. The time has come to announce it. This is a sacred day, and I shall tell you.
You know I declared on the very day when I decided to disclose my Identity, my mission, and my Advent that I belonged to the Apasthamba Suthra and the Bharadwaja lineage (gothra). This Bharadwaja was a great sage, who studied the Vedas for a full one hundred years; but, finding that the Vedas were endless (anantha), he did penance (thapas) for prolonging life, and from Indra he got two extensions of a century each. Even then, the Vedas could not be completed, so he asked Indra again for another hundred years. Indra showed him 3 huge mountain ranges and said, "What, you have learned in 3 centuries form only 3 handfuls from out of the 3 ranges that make up the Vedas. So give up the attempt to exhaust the Vedas. Perform a ritual (yaga) instead, which I shall teach you; that will give you the fruit of Vedic study, full and complete."
Bharadwaja decided to perform the ritual; Indra taught him how to do it; all preparations were completed. The sage wanted Shakthi to preside over and bless the ritual. So he went to Kailasa, but the time was not opportune for presenting his petition. Shiva and Shakthi were engaged in a competitive dance, trying to find out who could dance longer. Eight days passed thus, before Shakthi noticed Bharadwaja standing in the cold. She just cast a smile at him and danced along as before! The sage mistook the smile as a cynical refusal to notice him, so he turned his back on Kailasa and started to descend. To his dismay, he found his left leg, hand, and eye put out of action by a stroke. Shiva saw him fall, came up to him, and consoled him. Bharadwaja was told that Shakthi had indeed blessed him and his ritual. Then, Shiva revived him and cured him, sprinkling water from the Kamandalu. Both Shiva and Shakthi granted him the boons of a sage (rishi); they would both attend the ritual, they said.
After the ritual was over, they were so pleased that they conferred even more boons on the sage. Shiva said that they would take human form and be born in the Bharadwaja lineage, thrice: Shiva alone as Shirdi Sai Baba, Shiva and Shakthi together at Puttaparthy as Sathya Sai Baba, and Shakthi alone as Prema Sai, later. Then, Shiva remembered the illness that had suddenly come upon Bharadwaja at Kailasa on the eighth day of waiting in the cold on the ice. He gave another assurance. "As expiation for the neglect that Shakthi showed you at Kailasa for 8 days, this Shakthi will suffer the stroke for 8 days when we both take birth as Sathya Sai and, on the eighth day, I shall relieve her from all signs of the disease by sprinkling water, just as I did at Kailasa to cure your illness."
It was the working out of this assurance that you witnessed today, just now. This had to happen, this stroke and the cure. The assurance given in the Thretha era had to be honored. I may tell you now that the poor, forlorn devotee who had to suffer the stroke that I took over was a convenient excuse, which was utilized. You see, a railway engine is not made available to haul just one car; when a number of cars are ready, then the engine is put into action. So too, the disease had to be gone through, the devotee had to be saved, the assurance had to be carried out, the mystery had to be cleared, the Divinity had to be more clearly announced by the manifestation of this Grand Miracle. All these were accomplished by this one incident.
Let me tell you one more thing: Nothing can impede or halt the work of the Avathaara. When I was upstairs all these days, some people were foolishly saying, "It is all over with Sai Baba," and they turned back many who were coming to Puttaparthy! Some said I was in samadhi, as if I were a spiritual aspirant (sadhaka)! Some feared I was the victim of black magic, as if anything can affect me! The splendor of this Avathar will go on increasing, day by day. Formerly, when the Govardhanagiri (a mountain) was raised aloft by the little boy Krishna, the cowherd maids and boys (gopees and gopalas) realized that Krishna was the Lord. Now, not one Govardhanagiri but a whole range will be lifted, you will see! Have patience, have faith. Tomorrow morning, I shall give every one of you the Namaskaram Blessing that you missed today.
Notes from Indika at Prasanthi Nilayam
(Tuesday, October 22, 2002 8:38 AM)
Today also we had a surprise. During afternoon darshan, right after Swami had a short interview with a local couple, the microphone was brought out. Then Swami walked graciously to his chair & sat. A student announced there would be 2 boys from Swami's school sharing their Divine experience with Swami.

First speaker was Sri Rama, a student who attended to Swami's school in Ooti. He said when he was in the 4th grade his teachers always complained about his handwriting saying it’s not beautiful. In Ooti, Swami's home was very close to the classrooms. One day Swami walked into the classroom & very politely asked the class teacher, “May I come in?” Then Swami walked to each desk. Sri Rama quickly opened his notebook & began to write something, trying his best to work on his handwriting. Suddenly he saw Swami standing near & watching him. Swami asked, “What are you writing?” Sri Rama gave the book to Swami. Then Swami looked through the book & said, “Good boy, very nice handwriting.” This boy could hardly believe it since the book had remarks written by the teacher saying, “handwriting needs to improve.” After Swami left, Rama told his teacher. The teacher responded saying, “Swami said that because He is God.”

After graduating with a Masters from Swami's University, in an interview, Swami told Rama & his fellow mate that they will be going to U.S to the Loma Linda University in CA to get a Degree in Health Administration. Swami said first you must get the permission from your Parents & then get back to Swami.

Then Swami brought the application papers & asked the 2 boys to fill them out. The form asks why you want to come to this University. In reply, they wrote about the work that Swami does for the people, mentioning the Super Specialty Hospital & many more. They said that after they graduate they will serve Swami at the Hospital.
By now Swami told the boys to prepare for the Toefal & GMAT exams as they only have 2 wks left before the exam. They were so nervous, wondering how they could prepare for these tests in such a short time. They didn’t want to let Swami down by scoring low marks. Then Swami said, “I'm with you, don't worry.”

They received a reply from the Loma Linda Univ. saying they were very impressed with what the boys had written on the application form responding to the question about their reason for wanting to attend the university. Therefore, for the first time in history, the university would drop the Toefal exam & they would only need to do the GMAT.

The boys were happy to a certain extent, but now they worried over the GMAT. Usually students take a minimum of 3 – 4 months preparing for this exam. But Swami said, “You need to take this Exam in 9 days.” They asked their teachers to help them study & the teachers said, “Only God can help you.” Now these boys wondered why Swami wanted it this way when they were so happy doing their practice in Swami's University. Why was Swami testing them& putting us through this difficult situation. They took the pre-test 3 times, each time scoring very low. Now they were afraid of bringing a bad name to Swami's Univ.

The big day was on a Thursday the 9th. They did the test & were so afraid to click the button on the computer that says, ‘Would you like to see your scores?’ Finally, with sad faces they pressed it & what a surprise! Score is 2400 out of 2600.

Then Swami said, “Why you don't trust me? I told you not to worry, that I'm with you.? Swami did the exam for them.

The next step was to get the visas to come to US. Then in September, they hear of the tragic moment in New York - 911. (Sept.11, 2002). The embassy is closed.

After 2 days they went back to the Consular - stamped on the passports were the word saying - ‘No entry to US is allowed.’

Then Swami said don't worry & told them the date & the time of the day they would get the visas.

The Loma Linda University sent an urgent message to the Embassy asking them to reconsider & issue the visas as this was a very special case. The consular apologized to the boys & issued visas on the day & exact time that Swami mentioned earlier. Then Swami brought a suit for boys & said, “When you are in US, you have to dress according to their way, not white pant & shirt like in Parthi."

The boys had forgotten to take the suits with them to the US.

A few days before their graduation @ Loma Linda, they heard a knock on their room door. An elderly person had come from Parthi saying, “Swami sent me with this package for you.” When they opened it, they found 2 suits that Swami gave to the boys. He has sent a message saying, “You forgot to take it with you. Please wear this on your graduation.”

After graduating in June 2002, they returned home successfully in Nov. 2002 before Swami's birthday.

It was another lovely day of listening to our Mother Sai who pours his love on each one of us.

(Friday, October 25, 2002)

As we were sitting inside the Kulwant hall waiting for afternoon darshan we saw the microphone set out.
In fact, the microphone was set yesterday too, but there were no speakers. At 2:15pm Swami came – giving lovely darshan to all and then went into the inner room. There were no interviews. As the darshan music (instrumental music) stopped, some of the crowds began to leave. Usually if there is a special event, or a devotee is going to speak, they start by 3pm, not later than that. It looked liked nothing special was going to happen. After sitting for an extra 15 minutes, I thought of saving my spot with a cushion & taking a short break for tiffin. As I walked towards the gate to take my first foot step out, Swami walks to the hall. I felt the calling to stay and not go for tiffin.

Prashan, a student from Swami's school spoke. He said Swami asked him to take prasad to the villages. One particular house he went to had no response after knocking on the door for some time. He decided to open the door and walk inside this small dark home. He saw an old lady at the back of the house lying in bed. This old lady had a high fever. She asked the boy, very sweetly, why he is here. The boy replied. “Amma (mother) Swami sent prasad for you.”

The old lady said, “Son, my daughter & son in law no longer live with me. Now I'm alone & have to cook for myself. Today I'm having fever & in so much pain & unable to cook. So I thought of starving & just continue to stay in bed.” She was very happy to receive the prasad from our dear Lord.

Another student, Sai Krishna, said there was a family in UK. Their wish was to visit Swami in India. Knowing that they didn’t have the income to afford take this precious journey, they began to save a pound at a time. After lots of hard work & saving money for years the big day arrived.

Now this family is sitting for their First darshan. Swami comes & says, "GO". They are sitting by the interview room waiting for Swami. Swami came to the boys of this group & said "You boys are coming from UK like Teddy Bears with hairs long up to your noses. See how clean cut my students are. That’s how you should look", and he sent them back to the darshan hall, without interview.

Next day when Swami was coming for darshan, Swami sees all the boys in this group are with bald heads. All of them have shaved their heads. Now Swami said, "Why did you shave your heads, I only asked you to have a hair cut not to shave the head?" The boys replied" Swami, if the students can be so close to you with clean hair cuts, how much closer can we be by not having any hair?"

Swami was pleased with the reply & called them for interview. Each day of their trip they had morning & afternoon interviews. (2 per day)

Another student of Swami’s attended Swami's school from the primary classes. When he was in the 12th grade class, a friend had said how fortunate he was to be in Swami's school all through his education. Then this boy replied, “Yes, I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE to be in Swami's school since a little boy, but I don't know whether Swami knows that I came from the primary classes.”

Next day at darshan Swami stops by this boy & says, "Hey you – primary student, come.” This boy had his lesson that Swami knows everything.

There was a devotee who's a smoker. Each visit he came to Swami was for about 2 weeks. Within these 2 wks he's able to give up the desire of smoking due to Swami's grace. But when he returns home the habit continues.

On this particular trip, he happens to stay one month to be with Swami. After 2 wks he no longer was able to control the desire to smoke. So he thought of going outside the ashram to have a smoke & then return.

The next day he's back for darshan after fulfilling his desire. Swami walks right to him & says, "You are smoking." He said "No Swami." Swami said, "You are not smoking?" He replies, "No Swami I didn't smoke". Then Swami makes a gentle wave on his hand & materializes a photograph of this boy smoking outside the ashram.

During darshan Swami called one Australian group for interview. One devotee looked very sad. Swami asked "Why are you sad". He replied, "Swami my wife is sick & she is in Australia". Swami asked, "Do you want to go home?" He said "yes". Then Swami points to the interview room wall & says, "What do you see on the wall". Swami has created the map of Australia on the wall. Swami points to the map & asks, "What do you see now". He says, "That’s my city". Swami asks, "What do you see now". He says "Swami that’s the street I live". Then Swami says "What do you see now", "That’s my house Swami". Swami shows the entrance door to his house and asks, "You want to go in?" As he said, "yes" Swami said, "go".

So this devotee takes one foot inside the door (thru the interview room wall) & finds himself in Australia. The rest of the group members are stunned not knowing what happened to their fellow group member. This was a group of 12 devotees that went in & coming out of the interview room with 11 devotees. As they began to worry thought of calling Australia. He picks up the phone & says, "YES I'm in Australia", & clears the confusion.

As the student was just about to end these lovely stories, Swami surprised him by asking to sing a bhajan. The student was breathless & there was a 5-minute pause. Then he calmed down & said that Swami has requested me to sing a bhajan & I would like to take this moment to think, so I can sing an appropriate bhajan that will express my feelings. He sang a short bhajan in Hindi.

The evening was completed with lovely bhajans - Om namah Shivaya shivaya namah om
Bolo Vittala
Ram Ram bajamana hare hare
With Blessings from our Lord

How Bhagawan brought about a change of heart in a criminal
The story of Kalpagiri, Prof. N Kasturi says, deserves to be inscribed in letters of gold. It is a story of a base metal turning into gold with the loving touch of Baba. Here is the story in Prof. Kasturi words:
Kalpagiri had committed a foul murder and escaped the police of his area. He slithered silently towards the Himalayas in the north. He donned the ochre robes of a monk and wandered from one Dharmasala (monastery) to another, trying to smother the squeaks of conscience by chanting the Name of God. Four years he spent thus, trying to flee from himself into the sylvan glory and silence of the snowy mountains spread before him.
He met many a saint and sage and sadhakas (spiritual aspirants) and read many sacred books, discussed the role of Bhakthi, Jnana and Karma in releasing man from bondage and soon became proficient in the dialectic of non-duality.
After a few years had passed this way, he decided that he could safely venture into the old familiar regions and extended his pilgrimage to Simhachalam, Tirupati, Kanchi and Rameswaram in the southern part of India. Thence, he turned to Madurai and Srirangam, Chamundi Hills, Melkote, and reached Bangalore. In Bangalore he was told that a new Shirdi had now emerged in Puttaparthi. He boarded the Guntakal train, alighted at Penukonda, and a bus brought him to Prasanthi Nilayam.
Baba called the Sanyasi in. He is the All-knowing One. Nothing can be hidden from Him, by time or space or the artifice of man. He chided him for running away from the consequences of his deed.
While at Shirdi in the Sai Baba body Baba had told Shama, one of his close devotees, "Debt, enmity and murder have to be atoned for; there is no escape." So, Baba admonished Kalpagiri, "Why postpone for another birth the suffering which you must undergo in return for this dire deed?"
He told him that ochre robes ill became a debtor who has not paid his dues. He went up to His room and brought white clothes for him to wear in place of the ochre ones. He commanded him to go to the police in his area and give himself up. He gave him the fare and also the precious Vibhuthi Prasadam, four packets of it; He assured him, "Go, confess and undergo cheerfully whatever punishment they ultimately give you. You will not be hanged; I promise that. Your neck shall wear a Japamala, a rosary, which I shall myself put round it, when you come to Me after the sentence is over."
Kalpagiri emerged from the room, like a serpent that had cast off its skin and renewed itself. There was a new glint in his eye, fresh vigour in his voice and a lightness in his gait that was not there that morning. Baba must be the Lord Himself, he thought. He decided to obey His command and save himself, rather than discarding it and get caught in the net of retribution and rebirth.
Travelling in the crowded train that night, he saw a fellow writhing in pain, with his hand pressed on the abdomen; he could not but part with one of the four Vibhuthi packets he had with him; he was happy to find that the pain stopped and the man slept soundly. He knew that his estimate of Baba’s divinity was correct.
So, he confessed to the police and the death-sentence the Judge pronounced was compounded by the President of India into a sentence of life imprisonment.
During the weeks when the petition for Presidential Mercy was being considered, Kalpagiri in his cell was telling his neighbours Chengappa and others that he had met the Incarnation of the Lord at Puttaparthi and that He had assured him that mercy will be shown and that, he would get from Baba Himself a rosary when he finished his term and went to Him, freed from the recoil of the stab that he had inflicted on a fellow being.
The word came true and the petition bore fruit.

Joel Riordan, Hollywood film producer, writer and director, has an interesting story about how Baba changed his sceptic mind and sowed the seeds of faith in his heart. When Joel visited Prasanthi Nilayam along with his wife, Diana, who was a sincere devotee of Baba, he came with the intention to ‘expose’ Baba whom he sarcastically called ‘character’.
Joel has narrated his thrilling first encounter to Mr. Howard Murphet, which he recorded it in his book,“Sai Baba Avatar”:

‘Diana had been over to India a couple of times with her mother, Analise, and both of them used to talk about Sai Baba's miracles. I thought they must both be mad, or at least going mad. I seriously considered divorcing Diana. But there was my daughter Chrissie to think of. Anyway, I finally decided that, before doing anything drastic, I would go over and see this “character”, Sai Baba, for myself.
My parents had been show people and I was just about brought up in a circus. I was keenly interested in conjuring, and had seen what went on behind all the stage tricks. I figured that even if this character in India was a second Houdini, I would be able to expose him as a conjuror, and not a holy man miracle worker, as people claimed.
Just before I left Hollywood, I was having lunch with an important guy and - to give him a laugh - told him what I was planning to do. He seemed to have heard of Sai Baba, or read about him - may be in Schulman's book, or yours - any way, he said: "What are you going to ask him for, Joel?" The idea came to me then.
I answered: "They say this character is God-so I'll ask him for something only God can make - a rainbow". He laughed, and we talked about other matters. But I decided that was what I would ask for.’
When asked by Howard Murphet, whether his friend had known any Sai devotees in California, Joel replied: 'I checked on that later - for the same reason as you ask. No, he did not. He lived in a different world from them. No chance that anyone carried the story to Swami.
Anyway, a few days after that I flew to India, bringing Diana and Chrissie with me. It was early afternoon when we arrived in Puttaparthi, and an hour or so later we went for a walk up that hill behind the hospital. It was a hot, dry day, and we went up for a breath of air. We sat on some rocks and looked out over the country. It looked grim and parched-made me feel dehydrated just to see it.
Then in the western sky a bright rainbow appeared, Odd, I thought, how can you have a rainbow without a drop of moisture in the air? Something else struck me as peculiar. Instead of being curved in the usual way, the rainbow stood straight up in the sky like a column. I felt a bit spooky about it. Had this “character” heard my words right across in America, and caused this phenomenon?
Then the colours started to fade out from the bottom up. I felt I needed a drink. But of course there's no alcohol at Puttaparthi, and even the water was warm in that season.'
In answer to Howard Murphet’s query whether his wife Diana had known about his unusual wish, he replied:
'Yeah, I mentioned it to her on the way over on the plane. She saw the rainbow all right - ask her, yourself.
Afterwards, we came down from the hill, and there was a message that Swami wanted to see us. Diana got more excited about that than about the rainbow, but as we had come a long way, it seemed natural enough to me that He would see us on the first day.
When we walked into the interview room, Swami's first words knocked me out: "Well, character, how did you like your rainbow?"
'I was too dumbfounded to answer. He knew my name for Him, and what I was going to ask for, and had put that odd rainbow in the sky! It all blew my mind.
Well, I sat with the others on the floor, hardly hearing, and not understanding, what He was talking about. In fact, my mind was racing about like a rat in a trap, trying to find a way back to the common-sense world I knew. Granted he was a mind reader; telepathy does exist between people. It's been proved scientifically. But the rainbow must have been a hallucination or I had been hypnotized.
“I'll give him another test”, I thought to myself, “I will ask Him to produce some fresh fruit-out-of-season fruit - right here in this room, without warning.”
A few minutes after I'd had this thought, Swami stopped talking and waved his hand in his usual way. When he turned it up I saw a fresh fig sitting on his palm. He handed it to me without a word.
I ate it later. It was as fresh, as if had just been picked. Yet, figs were out of season and, as I learned later, none grew in that area anyway.’
This was how Bhagawan transformed Joel Riordan and sowed the seeds of faith in his heart. Later He gave him the job of supervising some painting work in the Brindavan Ashram in preparation for the Summer Course that year.
Joel was later fortunate to spend a lot of time staying with Baba and basking in His love and grace.
Reference: “Sai Baba Avatar” by Howard Murphet. Page: 39-42. Publisher: Macmillan India Limited, 1978. Ms. Diana Baskin too records this amazing story in “Divine Memories of Sathya Sai Baba”.
I would like to narrate about two incidents which happened during Annual sports meet. Annual sports meet is the regular event. Let me briefly explain what is this sports meet and its significance. The free education offered at Parthi by Bhagawan composes of all ingredients for a better student. This has a part for sports, yoga, spirituality, discipline apart from imparting education. Students have to undergo physical fitness regularly in the evenings. They have to go for exercises, and different games which are available in the hostel. Swami conducts regular music and cultural programs so that each and every student has a role to play in this programs.

Well, coming to this story of sports meet once in a year Sathya Sai Institute od Higher learning conducts Sports meet for all the three campuses (Puttaparthi ,Brindavan and Anathapur). The students go for rigorous training in different disciplines to show their talent to Bhagawan and impress Him. Some of the feats are very difficult to emulate by common people. Like Parachute jumping, Taking off through a motorized glider, Jumping over a running car from a stationary van, yoga on motor cycles as the list goes on and on.

This particular incident took place in 1991 when I was in Parthi. I forgot, This function annually takes place before Sankrnathi or second week of January. Students performed a lot of incidents and the end program was motor cycle stunt. One of the item was a student jumps from an elevated ramp to another elevated ramp which are of 6 feet high and are seperated by 5 feet distance. Jumping from one ramp to another was not a big deal. To impress the audience and to show their valor to none other than Bhagawan Himself students thought of adding fire in between the ramps. Well, Students had practiced this feet without fire in between the ramps, and wanted to have real stunt on the final day. Now the stunt started. The ramps were setup and the fire was lit. Now Anil Patle 1989 - 1991 batch MBA student started on his bike. When he was approaching the ramp the fumes and smoke became so thick he could not see the ramp on the second side. People from both sides of the ramps had no problem in seeing the ramps. Anil did not want to stop and thus generate great disappointment to Swami and to himself. He recollected his heroics during the practice and filling Gods name and thoughts in his heart jumped over. Perfect takeoff. He zoomed through the flames and landed on the second ramp as expected. Great applause. Swami was till the on the verge of the seat got up and started clapping. Everyone was so happy and as usual all the students who participated in the event went for Bhagawan's padanamskar. Swami patted this boy and said "Dunnapotha, Look at the ramp and jump do not push everything on God" chided lovingly.

The next morning Swami got the photographs of the motor stunt. He came over to our hero in question and showed the photograph. In that one shot was taken when the vehicle was landing. The picture was so vivid ( I still remember) that only the front wheel was touching the ramp and the back wheel was already going down in the fire. Anyone can understand that Anil reached early and no way he could make it to a safe feat without a back lift from  Bhagawan. Then Anil understood the meaning of what Bhagawan said while taking padanamaskar. Currently this boy Anil Patle is working in Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Medical sciences.

This story whenever I think of gives me tremendous confidence that He is there to take care of, so long I think of Him. There are lot of incidents happened to many students during their stay in Parthi and away from Parthi. This is only one such a small incident.
By R. D. Awle
A couple of years ago Baba gave me a special gift, in a highly unusual way; I think you’ll agree the story lends weight to my assertion of Baba’s divinity.  A man named Rouf (pronounced “Roof”), who owns one of the shops near Baba's ashram, saw me on the street one day and told me he'd had a “Baba dream” about me, and that he had something to give me.  I was a bit put off, but several weeks later finally paid him a visit, and as we sipped sweet tea in his shop, he told me his story:
"Last summer I went on a pilgrimage to some holy places up North.  Hardwar, Rishikesh, Kashmir, and then the Amarnath Cave, in Himalayas.  It's closed eight months a year from snow, no way to get in.  And in this cave, you've heard of it?  There's this naturally formed Lingam, a huge one, made of ice.  [A Lingam is an elliptical symbol of the Supreme Being, used in the worship of Lord Shiva.]  Shiva and Parvati actually lived in this cave - it's one of the holiest shrines in India.  So I'm sitting outside this cave - and suddenly these two white birds... What are they called?  Doves.  Two doves flew out of the cave.  And as they flew over my head, one of them dropped something in my lap.  And in that moment, I heard, 'This is for Ram Das.'"
"Wait,” I said incredulously.  “You heard that inside, from God?  Or from the bird?"
"Yes, yes," he replied, with the affirmative Indian head wobble. "The bird."
Rouf reached down and unwrapped a small package, and then held up the precious object: a radiant red Lingam.  "Ruby!" he said.  "A ruby Lingam."
"A Prema Lingam!” I replied, awed at the beautiful cosmic egg God had given.  (Prema means ‘Divine Love’.)
"Yes."  Rouf held it up to the light and smiled.  "But the problem was," he continued, "I didn't know who is this Ram Das.  I had forgot your name.  So I prayed for two weeks, every day, "Baba, who is this Lingam for?  Who is this Ram Das?"  Finally, one night Baba came in my dream.  He showed me you, and said, 'This is Ram Das.  Give it to him.'"
Rouf handed me the Lingam, which fit beautifully in the palm of my hand.  I was speechless - what a bizarre story!  Like something out of Tolkein, except the "Lord of the Rings" who had sent this was the supreme Lord of Love, incarnate in human form!  What an amazing leela - what a gift!
I held the sacred object to my chest for a while, drawing in its energy, and then said, "You know, Rouf, there's another interesting aspect to this.  In the book I'm working on, there's a ladder of concepts you can climb to reach the Truth.  Once you climb it, you then step off the ladder onto the Roof - the Supreme Reality, where no mind exists, where no concepts can ever reach.  So in my book, the word 'Roof' is equated with the Supreme Being.  And this gift has come to me from the 'Rouf'!”
God bless Rouf for passing the Lingam on to me, without the slightest hint of request for payment of any kind.  May he ever live up to his high name!
Clearly, Sai Baba stops at nothing to express His love for His devotees...  Is it not obvious, He is an incarnation of God?

Bhagavan was giving his evening darshan when two people, one a Chambal dacoit and another a practicing sadhaka were sitting together for darshan. When Bhagavan came towards them, the dacoit got up and handed over a letter to Baba, who just saw the envelope and threw it back --at the sadhak. Similarly Baba took the sadhak’s letter and threw it at the dacoit.
As soon as Baba went into the interview room, the dacoit demanded the sadhaka to give back the letter. Sadhak refused saying “It is Bhagavan Baba’s prasad to me.” Later both started fighting and created chaos. The crowd intervened and convinced the dacoit to stop fighting. One of Baba’s old devotees took both the envelopes and opened them. In the envelope given to the dacoit (which was originally the sadhaka’s letter), there was a Rs.500/-- note. The other letter with the sadhaka (originally belonging to the dacoit) contained the same paper on which he had written his letter but it was empty with all previous matter erased.
Both sat the next day in darshan lines and Baba came to them and said -- BABA to the dacoit: “You had faith in me. You wrote all your sins on that sheet of paper and said if I accepted it, all your sins would be forgiven. The letter you gave me came back to you empty. That shows that I’ve forgiven your sins. Just like the letter is empty to be written a new, start your life afresh.”
BABA to the sadhak: “You had my darshan for 7 days. You have exhausted all your money here. In your letter, you asked for money to go back home. What I’ve given you is enough to reach you home and fill your stomach on the way.”
Both fell at Baba’s feet and returned home with Baba firmly affixed in their mind.
Experience from the garden of Love

Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba
There was one classmate of mine whose father died during his childhood itself. Swami had told his mother that He would look after the boy and his elder brother, who was and is still working at Parthi. He then called this classmate of mine and told him: "From now, I am your father. If you need anything, you should ask me and not trouble your brother or mother."

A few days passed after the first semester of our first year was over. Most of the students were going home and my classmate too wanted to go and see his mother. But he did not have money for the ticket. He asked his elder brother who too expressed his inability to spare any money at that point of time. The boy was distressed, but did not tell anyone. Even we could see that he was slowly getting withdrawn in the room (he was my roommate too.)
In those days, Swami would call all the students to sit right from the bhajan door once bhajans started. Swami would keep moving in and out of the bhajan hall on several rounds of darshan.

One such day, He had just come and sat down on the throne and was looking at us as we rushed to sit from the front. He then suddenly got up and went into the interview room door. He then signaled to my classmate to follow Him. When my classmate came out 5 minutes later, he was weeping. Later on in the room, he told us what happened.

Swami had called him inside and asked him: "I told you that if you need anything you should ask me. Why did you go and trouble your brother? I know you want to go home and see your mother. You should have asked me. Am I not your father? Why do you then hesitate to ask me what you want?" He then gave him money for the ticket and spending and then told him to go and enjoy his holidays.

And the surprising thing was, my classmate never told anyone about what was eating him from within. Swami just knew!

The Light Shines in Africa
It was indeed a most fortuitous period for the "Dark Continent ", Africa. For Bhagavan, in His infinite mercy, had decided to set foot on the very soil that is regarded as the cradle of civilisation, and where humankind's ancestry can be traced. This event took place in July 1968, when Bhagavan spent two memorable weeks in Uganda, a country where I was born and raised. Uganda, a very beautiful and picturesque place once described by Winston Churchill as the ‘Pearl of Africa’, is a country which is the source of the River Nile flowing out of Lake Victoria (the second largest fresh water lake in the world) which sustains many millions of people in countries ranging from Uganda all the way up to Egypt, where it empties itself in the Mediterranean Sea. It is indeed the lifeblood of most of Africa. The Creator was now putting the final lustre on this pearl by physically going there.
Bhagavan has not yet stated the reason for this Divine visit to Uganda. However, there are many conjectures. Did He go because of the love for His devotees living there? Did He go there to warn His devotees of the dangers they were to face in the coming years at the hands of the ruling military junta? Did He go there to plant as yet some unknown seed in Africa, which will blossom at some time in the future? The answer to these questions may be all of the above and more.
Africa, as a general rule, has been beset by many and varied problems, ranging from natural disasters such as drought and famine, to problems, associated with racial and ethnic disharmony. It appears that some of the latter problems worsened as most individual countries in the Continent gained independence from their colonial masters in the 1960s.
It was against this backdrop of strife and discontent that Bhagavan visited the Continent of Africa. It was the first and only time He had left India for an overseas visit. It is interesting to note that not long before His Divine visit to Uganda, Pope Paul VI became the first ever Pontiff to set foot on the African soil by also visiting Uganda.
A Childhood Blighted by Asthma
I was a very sickly 13 year-old boy in 1968. I had a very severe form of asthma since I was born. My father had sought expert medical advice from as far away as the United Kingdom, all to no avail.
One day in June 1968, Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, was abuzz with the news that "Bhagavan" was coming to town and that His name was Sai Baba. I had neither heard this name nor seen what He looked like. My Father, Ravji Kara, and my mother Urmilabhen, had made arrangements to take myself and stay for the duration of His visit.
Thousands Flock for Bhagavan’s Darshan
When we arrived at Dr. Patel's home at about 4 p.m, thousands of people of all races and colours had already gathered there. His car was to arrive at Dr. Patel's home at 6 p.m, but the motorcade was delayed en route from Nairobi in Kenya, where His plane had landed from Bombay .
It was not until 1.30 a.m. that the motorcade finally arrived. Bhajans had been going on all evening at the makeshift hall that had been erected by Dr. Patel at his residence where all the people were patiently waiting for their first encounter with Bhagavan. I was indeed very fortunate that the car Bhagavan was traveling in stopped right in front of me. As He alighted, I took my first ever glimpse of Him. And what a wonderful sight it was. He looked majestic in the golden robe He was wearing. I remember thinking that He looked quite unusual for an Indian.

Swami in car after arriving in Nairobi
Bhagavan had an immediate impact on my being. Just one look at Him made me feel completely confident that He was to "cure" my illness. My very young mind was also convinced that Bhagavan has come to Africa just for me! I knew I would never be the same again.
My illness had been so severe that I cannot ever recall having slept at night times. I remember my mother having to wake up at least a dozen times a night to give me medication for my difficult breathing.
A few days after His arrival in Kampala , on 7 July to be precise, without my parent's knowledge, I decided not to attend school that day, visiting Bhagavan instead to obtain His Darshan. When I arrived at Dr. Patel's home, there were already thousands waiting in the streets for precisely the same reason. I joined the crowds and waited patiently for Him.
Called to Grace
It wasn't long before He came out to the delight of all gathered there. I saw Him materialising vibhuti for some people, and also witnessed Bhagavan creating a watch for an African policeman standing at his post at the gates of Dr. Patel's home. He then approached me where I was sitting, and summoned me to get up and go to Him. This I did immediately. What follows is a personal account of the "miracle" I experienced all those years ago.

Swami handing out Prashad to His African Devotees

Darshan rounds in Africa
As I approached Him, He asked me, "How is your asthma?" I remember being very surprised at His knowledge of my illness. Before I could utter any words in response, He said, "Go" pointing towards the gates of Dr. Patel's home. He then walked right past me. Hesitatingly, I started walking towards the gates. There was a policeman at the gates (incidentally, the same policeman who had earlier received the materialised watch) who opened the gates for me. I entered the compound, and was asked by the sevadal to sit there until Bhagavan called me into the interview room.

The Healing Touch
It appeared that I waited for an eternity for Him to beckon me in. Whilst I was waiting, my young mind was going through all sorts of questions like: "What if something happens to me while I am inside?" "What is this large fuzzy-haired man going to do to me?" "What am I going to tell Him when I am inside?", "Am I going to be cured of my illness?" As all these thoughts were racing in my head, Bhagavan came out of the small door leading into the interview room and waved me go inside. Still quite nervous, I approached Him and He took me inside holding my hand.
The interview room was approximately 6m x 6m in size. As He greeted me in, He started telling me of my asthma, at the same time, 'acting' very similarly to when I was having one of my asthma attacks. He then invited me to enter another very small room that led out of the larger interview room. This room was barely big enough for the two of us. I entered this room first, and Bhagavan 'squeezed' in after me. We stood facing each other, barely six inches apart. I must admit that my heartbeat was now racing, and He must have sensed this, as He tried to relax me by saying some pleasantries.
As I looked up to His face, he opened His right hand palm and instructed me to "look, look, look" at it. I did what He asked, and after about 10 seconds, He said "touch, touch, touch." The palm was beautifully soft and dry. As I looked up to Him again, He asked me to keep looking at His palm. Within a few seconds, I witnessed droplets of liquid forming on His palm, completely filling it up.
He asked me to remove my shirt, which I did immediately. He then rubbed the materialised liquid on my chest until all of it was absorbed into the skin.

at Dr Patels Home

I was asked to put my shirt back on. We both then proceeded to very gently squeeze out of the small room. As I looked into His eyes, I experienced the feeling of love that I don't believe I had ever experienced before. It was a most wonderful moment of my short life.
He then gave me a few packets of vibhuthi, said many other things that I cannot now recall, and patted me on the back and said: "Go - no more asthma." These few magical words have always kept ringing in my ears since then. He led me out of the interview room, letting me undertake padanamaskaram.
“Mum, no more asthma!”
I remember running home after the interview (my home was merely 15 minutes walk from where Bhagavan was staying). I greeted my mum with biggest smile shouting: "Mum, I have just had an interview with Sai Baba and He said that I will never suffer from asthma again. Mum, I will never wake you up in the middle of the night to administer the medication again, and I will never have to see anther doctor again." I was truly ecstatic.
It has been 34 years almost to the day as I sit here in Sai Kulwant Hall in Prashanti Nilayam, writing this short account! – My direct experience of Bhagavan's spontaneous expression of Divine Love. My asthma has deserted me completely. My wife Julie and I, and the rest of my whole family who all now reside in the United Kingdom, have been visiting Bhagavan in Prashanti Nilayam for many years now and we all constantly experience His Love and Divine Miracles in our daily lives.
“My methodology is love” - Swami
Professor N. Kasturi, in his book ‘The Light of Love’, giving a short account of Bhagavan's visit to Africa, said that at a question and answers session held in Kampala at the gathering of the Rotarians, Lions, lawyers, and doctors, Bhagavan was asked what the purpose was of His performing miracles, and whether it was good for people to know that the laws of nature can be broken. He replied that He does not perform miracles. What we call miracles, He said, are just spontaneous evidences of His Divinity. He said that He has not acquired the power to perform these so-called miracles, nor does He exhibit them for demonstrating His Divinity. The expression of His love is a nidarsana or evidences of His Divine Power which induces one to take to the Godward path. He went on to say that "I do not set about to 'perform' what you call 'miracles'; It is My way of doing things, My way of expressing My love and grace."

This is another episode I received from one of the devotees from India. This
is collected from "The Living Divinity" written vu Shakuntala Balu. There a
few stories like this, which I promised to tell to you people in the last
week Bhajan. This is one of those incidents, which talk about Bhagawan who
is different from what we see with naked eye.

Signor Dante Bighi is a photographer and graphic artist from Italy. He learnt of Sri Sai Baba from friends.

The first time he went to Parthi was for a week in November, for Baba's birthday. The day he arrived at Parthi, Baba was celebrating a mass wedding for a hundred and fifty couples who could not have afforded grand weddings. That evening, when Baba came near to him, Sr.Bighi experienced "powerful spiritual vibrations." He felt a strange new peace and knew himself in the presence of a superior power. Baba materialized vibuthi for him. He accepted gratefully and expressed a birthday greeting. Baba smiled and said, "What is a birthday? The soul has no birthday. It is only the body."

A few months later, he again journeyed to India. His only aim was to meet and photograph Baba. His first meeting had given him so much joy. He arrived in Bangalore with an Italian friend, Sr.Craxi, a businessman and an ardent Sai devotee. Sr.Bighi had the great good fortune to have several interviews with Baba and many opportunities of photographing him. He specializes in outdoor photography using natural light and likes to have unusual and exotic effects.

"I want to take a divine picture of Swami." Sr.Bighi told over and over again to Shakuntala Balu. "Divine picture? You can only photograph Swami as he is. Don't tell me you will photograph a cross on him with your lens and get a divine Jesus photograph of Sai Baba," said Balu's husband. But Sr.Bighi brushed aside this pleasantry and said, "No, Mr. Balu, I will get my divine picture of Baba and you will see it. I want to photograph the sun and Swami, Oh, it will be fantastic. Swami has such a fantastic personality. Everything about him is captivating to me as a photographer. He is the ideal subject for any photographer, even as he is, but the sunlight streaming down on him, on his crown of hair ... Ah! That will be truly fantastic." Sr.Bighi was imagining how wonderful the photographs would be if only he could take some shots of Baba in The Sun and against the light.

His determination made us to pray that Baba would grant him his wish and pose for him in the Sun. Baba smilingly obliged. Sr.Bighi knelt and crawled to get his shots. He rolled from side to side, made various uncomfortable movements on the ground and carried on , clicking away happily. Baba, seeing his performance, asked, "Is there film in the camera? Everyone heard and laughed except for Sr.Bighi who had forgotten everything except " The Sun and Swami."

Baba granted two interviews to Sr.bighi and went over his whole life and Career with him. He materialized vibhuti and a locket for him. Sr.Bighi then asked for his robe and Baba said,"Yes." Sr.Craxi and Sr.Bighi were invited to attend an exclusive celebration at the Cowan Hostel (Hostel for Brindavan students) on Yugadi's Day. Baba, on that occasion, materialized the fabulous Kosala ring, a precious stone dating from the age of Sri Rama.

Before Sr.Bighi left, Baba gave him one of his robes. Sr.Bighi was overjoyed by the gesture. Once back in Milan, he made a special glass case in which to exhibit the robe. He calls it his portrait of Baba and what he means to him. The poem also explains the meaning and different aspects of the "portrait" in the glass case. Sr.Bighi says that whoever visits his studio finds the "portrait" too powerful. Some have even said, "Take it away, it is too strong, too much for me." Sr.Bighi is certain that some of Baba's extraordinary vibrations radiate from his "portrait."

Mrs. Balu protested," How can it be a portrait? It is only Swami's robe. You haven't even used some of your photographs to make up the head and limbs. One copy is sent to Mr.Balu, he exclaimed "This is unbelievable. Look! Bighi has got the cross on Swami's heart." In another one, Sr. Bighi had Lord Shiva's crescent moon in his hair and a luminous circle in the middle of his forehead where the third eye is thought to be.

Sr.Bighi would like to photograph Baba again and again. Asked why, he sighs, "I cannot explain. It is something I feel deep within me and I cannot express it in words. There is no personality like him on earth."

Some of the photographs which he clicked are still available in Parthi.
For all the students who worked at the Sathya Sai Hill View Stadium weeks and months before it was to be opened in 1982 will never forget Bhagawan's Love showered upon them every day, Apart from the L&T Engineers, the people who worked the Hardest were Swami's Students because Bhagawan always drilled the fact into them that It would they who would be using the Stadium the most, So they should work more on it. Apart from Bhagawan's daily trips to the stadium, his giving of sweets and other presents to the boys, which were imprinted on the minds of everyone concerned.

One wonderful incident happened which left an indelible impression on everyone concerned. There was a dog which used to follow Bhagawan from a distance everyday, It never interfered with anyone, after Bhagawan left it used to go and sleep in front of the many Trees near the High School. Swami never even looked at it even once, As days passed, One day before Bhagawan was about to get into his car, He suddenly stopped and walked a few metres, and stood for a few minutes facing the high School Building, Everybody was surprised at seeing Swami standing alone and looking into the distance, then the Dog appeared from behind the School building and started running towards Bhagawan, Bhagawan bent down, patted and caressed the dog, gave it a few eatables and after a few minutes, left the dog and went away.

Nobody ever saw the dog again. After a few days someone mustered the courage to ask Bhagawan about the Dog, Bhagawan said that immediately after it left me it jumped into a well and died because it as Swami said "It did not want to touch anyone after I had touched it".

We sometimes look down upon creatures down the line of species as very inferior to us, this incident proves that everyone and everything has a conscience and every one are equal before Bhagawan.

Bhagawan's Love is for everyone to experience, it is how we experience it is the Question.

Om Sai Ram.

Personal account of Sivarathri celebrations at Puttaparthy.
Dear friends
By Sri Sathya Sai Baba's grace I was able to attend the sivarathri function on 1-3-03 and a witness to many miracles.
The crowd was very high this time and estimated to be 3 lakhs. For the morning darshan.
The que was full by 4.30A.M.The token system were not there and it was first come first serve basis.By 6.AM the hall was full.At that time the que for the evening darshan started to form from the steps!!!. Swami came out at 7:10 a.m.15 Students played "Panchavadyam" (percussion from Kerala). Swami did not go to the mens side and went directly and sat in His throne in the lobby at Sai Kulwant Hall. At 7:20 a.m. Students started singing.
The songs included:Vishwanatha Ashtakam,Vilvashtakam,Lingashtakam etc. At 8:20 a.m. Bhajans started.
As soon as the Bhajans started, Swami got up from His chair and directed students to distribute sweets to all. Overseas devotees had prepared a cake resembling Himalayas with a Shiva Statue atop. Swami cut the cake at 8:30 a.m.
Swami accepted Aarathi at 8:40 a.m. During Aarathi, Swami gave Darshan to devotees. He continued to give Darshan to devotees even after Aarathi.
At 8:55 a.m. Swami went to the interview room and returned at 9:10 a.m.
As soon as Swami came out, once again the students started "Panchavadyam" in front of the Lion Statue.
Swami blessed them and started walking towards Poornachandra. At the entrance, the Anantapur Students welcomed Swami by playing Nadaswaram (auspicious music from South India). Swami blessed and spoke to them and proceeded to Poornachandra.
By 10.am the que for evening darshan were full.By 11a.M the devotted were allowed to enter the hall It was swami's kindness for the sun was really hot!!.I got into the second row.
since there were much time the time was spend speaking and hearing about swamis leelas.
By 2 .30 P.M entry to the hall was banned due to overcrowding. For us early bird devotees token were given to go outside for some light refreshment.
Three huge projection screens have been put up for the devotees to have a better view of Swami on the occasion of Shivarathri - One near East Prashanthi, another in the women's side facing Kulwant Hall and the third in between Sai Kulwant Hall and Poornachandra.
Swami came out at 3:00 p.m. and went straight to His room at the Mandir. At 3:10 p.m., He came out and sat in His chair at the lobby in Sai Kulwant Hall.
As soon as Swami came out, one Mr. Raju, who is the chairman of Nagarjuna Construction started reading poems he had composed on Swami and sports day. He recited the poems until 3:40 p.m. From 3:40 p.m., three speakers spoke. They were:
Mr. Sanjay Sahani - ex-student and principal of Brindavan Campus
Mr. Narasimha Murthy - Warden of Brindavan campus
Mr. S.V.Giri - Vice Chancellor of Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning
During his talk, Narasimha murthy emplored Swami not to suffer the ordeal of bringing out a Lingam this year. He requested Swami to materialize the Lingam by waving his hands. Narasimha Murthy finished his talk around 4:35 p.m.
Soon after, Swami materialized a Lingam by waving His Hand in full view of devotees.
It was a big Golden Lingam 3 inches in length.this shows to us devotees that our swami will fullfill our sincere wishes if asked with a open heart.
Mr. S.V. Giri spoke till 4:50 p.m.From 4:50 - 5:50 Swami delivered His Divine Discourse
Main theme of the discourse was on how to conduct Satsang.
Swami said that Satsang is unity in thought word and deed.
Swami then spoke about Sathyam (truth) and Rhythm. How the two are connected. He said that Sathyam is very important and should always be followed. Swami said Rhythm can be called as Transcendental Truth in English. That is Truth that does not change at all in past, present or future.Swami ended the discourse with the Bhajans "Sathyam Jnanam Anantham Brahma..."As soon as the discourse was over, Swami asked the Bhajans to start. Swami went inside the Mandir and came back at 6:35 p.m.
After Swami came back, He started drinking lots of water.twice he coughed.
At 7:10 p.m. Swami manifested a lingam (Lingodhbhavam) from his mouth. The crowd were standind after the first lingodbhavam Then after 3 minutes he produced the second lingham from his mouth(Lingodhbhavam)
At 7:15 p.m. Swami retired to Poornachandra.
Bhajans were continuing overnight. lot of bhajan troops were there at half hour strech.
On 2-3-03 Swami came out at 5.20 am from Poornachandra Hall to Sai Kulwant Hall. He went to His room and came out at 5.35 am.
At 5.45 am He signaled the Akanda Bhajans to stop and started His discourse. He spoke till 6.45 am.
The main theme of His Discourse was unity in the family and that percolating to the society. He gave the example of Shiva family. He said Shiva;s vahana is Nandi which is a bull. Parvathi;s vahana is Simha, the lion. These two are normally at loggerheads. Similarly, Subramaniam;s vahana is peacock and that will not spare any snake while Shiva;s abarana is snake! Ganesha vahana is rat and the snakes would not spare the rat!
Yet all of them co-exist peacefully in Shivas family. People should draw lesson from this. Though there may be factors contradictory, one should live in unity and harmony. The basic need for this is the love and one should love everyone. It is wrong to say that God is within me. One should feel he is in fact in God. Everyone is in God and not the other way.
Swami concluded His discourse with two Bhajans Prema Mudhita and Hey Shiva Shankara Namami Shankara Afterwards He asked the Mangala aarathi to be performed. He blessed the Bhajan Singers (both men from PSN Complex, Brindavan Complex and women from ATP complex who were singing the bhajans in turn) by raising both His Hands. All devotees had Laddu and Puliyodarai Rice as Prasad. Swami happily enjoyed the sight of devotees being fed. At 7.20 am He went from the lobby straight towards the crowd assembled near the Rama Sita idols and blessed them. Then swami returned.
Send this email to your friends to spread the name of Swami far!

Professor Frank Baranowski, a psychologist and regression therapist, specializes in research on auras, the energy patterns that surround all living beings, and works at the university of Arizona. He is an expert in bio-magnetic field radiation photography. He has photographed and interpreted the auras for numerous men and women using the ultra-sensitive Kirlian camera.
Professor Baranowski had read several books about Sri Sathya Sai Baba, including Samuel Sandweiss’s “Sai Baba, the Holy man and the Psychiatrist.” He wondered whether such a person could really exist and whether all that was written about him was factual. As he was, at that time, writing a book on reincarnation based on case studies and other findings, he was interested in Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s claim of being a reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba.
During Christmas 1977, Professor Baranowski was a guest at a home where a Bhajan (devotional songs) session was in progress. A stranger to this form of worship, he withdrew to a room upstairs. He was resting there quietly in the dark room when, to his astonishment, a candle on the table suddenly burst into flames.
The bright flame illuminated a nearby picture of Sri Sathya Sai Baba. He could not understand who could have lighted the candle. He was alone in the room. There had not been any sound and no one had come in. How could a flame appear all of a sudden on the wick of the candle? He stared at the picture and it did many things to him. It seemed to penetrate into him and to beckon to him. To a man of science, this occurrence was totally inexplicable.
The thought of Sri Sathya Sai Baba lingered in him long after the candle experience. He decided to go to India and visit Sai Baba. Here is the account of his encounter with Baba for the first time, in his own words:

Sathya Sai Baba? Yes, I had heard of Him but with a lot of mixed emotions. The stories that were attributed to this man bordered on the incredible. As a man of science, I am aware of psychosomatic healings, and I have seen miraculous healings done by such notable personalities as Olga Worrell, and at such famous places as Lourdes. Yet, here were rumours of a man from India who could heal people by His mere touch. The story hinged on the unbelievable.
In July of 1978, I found myself at the first World Peace Conference at Bangalore. I had heard that Sathya Sai Baba resided in a place called Whitefield. This small community boasts of a college founded by Sathya Sai Baba and dedicated to science and commerce. As I arrived by taxicab, the first thing I noticed was the refreshing cleanliness of the area.
Though hot and stiflingly humid, hundreds of Indians and foreigners crowded the grounds surrounding Sathya Sai Baba's ‘ashram’ or residence. I joined the patient assemblage, sitting squat-legged among the Eastern visages. I didn't have to wait long until Sathya Sai Baba appeared. I must confess, this first time I saw Him I was not impressed.
He was of small stature and walked among the people as if He were distracted. He would hardly take the time to look at a person or to talk with them - then He would suddenly turn His head as if looking for someone else. It wasn't until the next morning that I realized I was seeing an individual who possessed gifts beyond description.
It was about five o'clock in the morning, and the followers had been singing their devotional songs and chanting during a parade around the compound at Whitefield, when Sathya Sai Baba came out of His residence.
Now, I have always been able to see the human aura. The auras around average people extend as much as three to five feet. Auras are composed of every imaginable colour and these colours change as a person's emotional, physical and mental states change. In general, whenever the colour blue is evident in a person's aura, it is an indication of deep spirituality; green is a healing color; yellow indicates high intelligence; and red means anger or frustration.
The colour pink, which is rarely seen, typifies a person capable of selfless love, and this was the colour that Sathya Sai Baba had around Him. The aura around Sathya Sai Baba went beyond the building reaching thirty or forty feet in all directions. Never having seen any aura like this before, my first reaction was to look for fluorescent lights, which may have been shining on Him. But as I watched, the beautiful pink energy pattern moved as He moved; there was no doubt that this was His aura.
Entranced by this remarkable sight, I barely heard the devotional songs that were being sung, and before I knew it, Sathya Sai Baba had gone. The crowd settled in the now-familiar cross-legged positions and prepared themselves to wait until Sathya Sai Baba's next appearance, four hours later.
I have had the pleasure of meeting such personalities as ex-president Gerald Ford, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, and Pope John Paul II, and I have studied their auras as well as tens of thousands of others, I say this not as a testimonial but as a fact; not one person I have ever seen has an aura to compare to the size and colour of Sathya Sai Baba's aura
The heat was remarkable; the humidity hung like a wet cloth over the gathering. Amid chanting, a few anxious eyes watched the threatening skies, Dark clouds gave foreboding signs of torrential storms, but all around me devotees were assuring each other "Sathya Sai Baba won't allow it to rain".
Then, there He was again, I felt my heartbeat quicken as He turned in my direction. Soon He stepped beside me, looked at me, and then made a quick motion to the man seated beside me. Suddenly crushed lilies began to appear in the palms of His hands, and as they poured forth, the petals filled the cupped hands of the seated man. But the flower petals didn't stop coming; they went on to fill the waiting hands of a second, a third and then a fourth person!
As this great man turned away, He glanced in my direction as if to say, "Have you noticed what I have just done?" I couldn't have helped witnessing what had happened. To answer possible arguments, Sathya Sai Baba's sleeves reached His elbows. So it was not by magic tricks that these petals appeared. And I was not hypnotized into believing I was seeing them, for I am a licensed hypnotist myself and am very difficult to hypnotize. Within my limited understanding, it was difficult to believe I had just witnessed this miraculous demonstration. I sat there, in that same position, for a very long time, dumbfounded by what I had seen.
The very next morning I felt myself drawn back to the very same compound, sitting in the lotus position and waiting for Sathya Sai Baba to appear once again.
As I sat quietly, I heard a voice in my mind tell me that I must cross the field, walk through the area where the women were standing and talk to a man who was standing against a building there. I did not feel comfortable approaching a stranger, especially in a strange country where there is a language barrier, but I could no longer ignore the voice in my mind. I went across the field and found a man standing against the building. I spoke to him.
"I hope you speak English. I have a voice in my mind that says I must speak to you”. He introduced himself as Prof. Narender, and he said, "You must be the lecturer Sathya Sai Baba said would speak to me today”.
I am a lecturer; I have given approximately 9000 lectures all over the world. But how did this man know that?
In the next four days I watched Sathya Sai Baba with His people. He calmed them; He gave them hope. As He walked among them, the beautiful pink colour in His aura permeated the violent red colours in the crowd. His selfless love transcended their fears and worries. Perhaps you have to meet this man to understand His gifts. He gives of Himself to thousands of people from all around the world who await His blessings.
Prof. Narender's message to me proved to be that I was to speak to Sathya Sai Baba's college on Friday afternoon. Eight hundred students and later one hundred teachers listened to my lecture. As I stood next to Sathya Sai Baba, I could see His aura reach beyond the platform. It surrounded all the people in the room. Soon His love - and that's the only word I can use for the warm, buoyant, totally immersing emotion we experienced that evening - reached each and every person in that room and they began to sing and chant devotions to this man.
The word "Avatar” is often used when referring to Sathya Sai Baba, meaning one who has Christ-like powers, or God-like power and one who may even be God Himself.
Now, I am a devout Catholic. Yet I would be a fool if I did not recognize the powers this man has. Amidst the singing and chanting, the Avatar turned to me and said, "Because you are a man of such great love….” and He showed me the empty palm of His hand.
He circled His hand in the air three times and produced a ring with the nine precious gems of the world embedded in gold. He said, "It will only fit the first finger of the right hand”. And indeed, that is the only finger it fits.
It's magnificent! It's a beautiful ring! But it holds special meaning to me because this great man, this Avatar, graced me with His words: "Because you are a man of such great love…. "
The next day I was once again honoured by Sathya Sai Baba as I was granted a private audience with Him. I was anxious to discuss not only reincarnation with Him, but also my grandson. The boy was born with a heart defect. At the age of one year he weighed slightly less than seven pounds. Numerous operations left him with little hope for a normal life, even if he survived at all.
But before I could mention this to Sathya Sai Baba, He told me that there would be an operation on the day I arrived home (in Arizona) and that the baby would be well. I said, "You must be wrong. The baby is not old enough to have this operation. The physicians said the minimum age for the operation would be at age two, even two and a half." Sathya Sai Baba just smiled, and said, "No, it will be on the day you arrive home."
He was right. On the day I arrived in Arizona, the baby was operated on. The doctor who performed the surgery gave my grandson little hope of survival. When my daughter introduced the doctor to me, I discovered he was from India. I told him I had just returned from there, and mentioned some of the places I'd been to. When I mentioned Whitefield he interrupted me and asked, "That's Sathya Sai Baba's country, isn't it?"
I said yes, and showed him the ring I had been blessed with. The doctor looked at me with the eyes glowing, and said, "The child will live," as if all that was needed was the mention of Sathya Sai Baba's name.
The child did survive.
Perhaps of all the miracles I witnessed in my ten days in India, no miracle is as great as the miracle of one man giving so much love to so many people. In my estimation and experimentation, Sri Sathya Sai Baba is, aura-wise, exactly what He says He is and what He asks everyone to be. He is love, pure and simple. He is love walking on two legs. Such unselfish love is nothing other than Divinity.
His own words say it best –
"Love. Continue to love and all will be well."
